Day 2 onboard (Wednesday)
Slept pretty good . Had a great
breakfast. Afterwards there was a talk on Zodiac safety/boots and
life jackets. Also what to do and what not to do on the tundra
concerning vegetation and animals. We signed ourselves into group 1
and pick out our rubber boots which are ours for the next two
weeks....We saw our 1st sighting of wildlife this
morning, a bearded seal on some floating ice. Everyone must have
taken 100's of pictures...We were all very excited.
Lunch was a buffet , loads of food .
So glad we are getting off and going for a walk for a few hours this
afternoon. Zodiac ride was fantastic. Landed and walked to where
the moderate group was to meet. Went up the hill a bit and saw two
reindeer. As we walked we saw loads more. Along the track we saw
some of the reindeer’s antler skin. Malting time. You can tell
too as the antlers on the males is bright red!! In the distance we
saw 2 Arctic foxes ….walked to the zodiac meeting place and then
back to the ship. Afternoon recap and about our Zodiac trip out
tonight, we get to see Walrus!!
After dinner we headed to the mud room
to suit up for the next Zodiac trip . When we got the beach we
walked up a bit to the spot where we were to be quiet and take
photo's of 6 male Walrus, they were sleeping but every now and then
they would lift up their heads and make sure they were safe.
After about ½ hours we boarded the
Zodiacs and back to the ship. It was 10pm and still light out!!Time
for bed as we have an early start tomorrow.
